As Kanye said it: if you don’t know by now, I’m talking bout Chi-Town.
Hands down, Chicago is one of my favorite places to visit. I’ve been three times and fall in love all over again every time I go.
And now that I think of it, one of the most important things that always brings me back is the city’s food.
The best brunch I have EVER been to is Batter and Berries. (Pssst. I live in D.C., and for those who don’t know, we brunch like our lives depend on it, so this was major for me.)
For starters, it’s BLACK-OWNED and BYOB! (Don’t worry — there’s a 7-11 on the corner to buy all the champagne you want.) Until I visited B&B, I had NEVER went to brunch with five strong-minded women without someone adding something to their entree. I mean, no salt, pepper, syrup, NOTHING extra was needed. I ordered the peach cobbler french toast and the crawfish omelette — Ah-May-Zing!!!
Moving along to lunch/dinner, the best burger you will ever taste is from Au Cheval. When I say the bacon strips are so thick…I thought it was sliced STEAK that they had placed on my plate! My eggs were cooked to perfection, and the aioli sauce was so delicious. There’s no wonder why celebs like Beyoncé and LeBron James can’t get enough of the place!
Another black owned business in Chicago that’s equally wonderful is Sip & Savor! Basically, it’s a coffee shop that you could compare to Starbucks, but only better!
If you’re unsure where to crash at night, the Hyatt Centric The Loop Chicago has great views. Not only is it planted in the heart of Chicago, it’s also surrounded by top-rated restaurants, swanky bars and tons of shops. Not to mention the hotel is super cute and the beds are beyond comfy.
Lastly, of course you can’t visit the Chi (Not Chai, Debra Lee.) without seeing Cloud Gate a.k.a “The Bean,” the Chicago Riverwalk and Skydeck Chicago. When visiting the Skydeck, make sure to go at night so you can see the skyline with all the buildings lit up. And trust me, please pay the extra $10 for the “Step Out” experience — it’s soooooo worth it!
